Wellness Wednesday – Top 3 Tips for Men’s Health with Nurse Lauren

Jun 26, 2019 | Posted by Maureen | Celebrations - Awareness, Healthy Living, HIT Feed, Nurse Lauren |

Hi there, Nurse Lauren here with your Wellness Wednesday tips. As we conclude Men’s Health Month, let’s talk about my top tips for men and boys to stay healthy. To all the men reading this, just because June is ending does not mean you can now ignore your health. Keep in mind these three top tips all year round to keep YOU healthy.

Preventative Care
Having a primary doctor and visiting them every year is essential. Early detection and treatment are the key to living a longer, healthier life. Some diseases do not have recognizable symptoms early on. Visiting a doctor can help detect a problem early on, and potentially be life saving. According to the CDC (@CDCgov,) women are 100% more likely to visit the doctor for annual examinations and preventive services than men.  If you haven’t visited your PC in over a year, make an appointment today.

Eating Healthy and Exercising Regularly
Nutrition and exercise are key factors in keeping a healthy lifestyle. Eating a healthy diet that includes less processed foods and more fresh fruits and vegetables will help keep your heart and body healthy and prevent diseases. Regularly exercising can help lower your blood pressure and your cholesterol and sugar levels. Adults should get two and a half hours of physical activity each week.

Mental Health is Important Too
A leading cause of disease and injury for both men and women is depression. Stress and anxiety can cause physical and emotional stress as well. Knowing when it’s time to talk to someone about your mental health is just as important as seeing a primary care physician. If you find yourself feeling anxious or depressed you can manage these feelings by finding support, following my other tips (eating healthy and exercising,) avoiding alcohol and drugs and quitting smoking.

This is Nurse Lauren, contributor of NursesNOW, signing off with your Wellness Wednesday tips. Men should follow these tips to keep a healthy lifestyle.
