National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) is an annual observance held in August to highlight the importance of routine vaccination for people of all ages. This week’s Friday Five focuses on the importance of vaccines for public health and resources to make sure you and your loved ones can become up-to-date on all immunizations.
Get Back on Track with Routine Vaccinations
The American Association of Immunologists supports this annual observance which highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life. We know that busy schedules can sometimes impact your ability to attend important appointments and receive routine vaccinations. During NIAM, we encourage you to talk to your doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider to ensure you and your family are protected against serious diseases by getting caught up on routine vaccination.
Creating a Community of Immunity
The American Academy of Family Physicians has up-to-date resources and education on this page support your efforts to talk with patients of any age and confidently lead them to the best decisions. Vaccines have prevented more than 29 million hospitalizations and 1 million deaths for U.S. children born in the last 25 years.* However, vaccine misinformation remains a threat to public health.

Champions for Vaccine Education, Equity and Progress (CVEEP) was established to serve as a trusted source of information and a leader of discussions among organizations representing a variety of communities that face challenges from infectious respiratory illness, particularly diverse communities that have been most harmed by the effects of respiratory illness. CVEEP is committed to providing resources and raising awareness about the continued need for vaccination against infectious respiratory illnesses across the lifespan and the importance of treatments for those who are eligible.
Vaccines don’t just save lives — they save money. For every $1 spent on childhood vaccinations, we save $11 in treatment costs, freeing up resources for other public health needs. Learn more with our resource “How Vaccines Reduce Costs”
