The Microbiome Hits #1 for 2017: Cleveland Clinic Top 10

Nov 15, 2016 | Posted by Industry News | Health Innovation, Healthcare, HIT Feed, News |

prebiotics200Prebiotin comments on Cleveland Clinic’s Top 10 Game Changing Medical Innovations

Cleveland Clinic’s announcement of the Top 10 Medical Innovations came at the conclusion of the 2016 Medical Innovation Summit.

The real surprise was the designation of the #1 spot to the Microbiome, welcome news to the “natural channel” product manufacturers, but more importantly to the millions of people globally who suffer from conditions and diseases that have the potential to be prevented and even healed. It beat out 200 nominations for inclusion in the Top Ten.

“Whichever candidate wins the U.S. presidential election on November 8th, reducing the state of exploding healthcare costs will be a priority. Reducing expenditures on traditional medical approaches and increasing the use of far less expensive nutritional solutions, which provide better outcomes, should be at the top of either party’s agenda,” says Prebiotin (@Prebiotics) CEO, Ron Walborn Jr.

Research into the intricacies of the relationship between the trillions of microbes that populate our gut is increasing but not new, but the acknowledgement of its importance is now prominent due to the WHI White House Initiative earlier this year and a world global initiative. In the case of the U.S., leaders and institutions are joining their resources financially and strategically to ramp up research and provide solutions to disease and health and well-being.

What is rarely yet discussed is the huge potential cost-savings to the overburdened U.S. healthcare system. According to a 2014 Forbes article, healthcare expenditures hit 3.8 Trillion, the equivalent of the entire GDP of Germany.

According to Statista, The United States alone holds over 40 percent of the global pharmaceutical market. In 2015, this share was valued around 413 billion U.S. dollars. However, the prebiotic industry alone is estimated to reach 7.2 billion by 2024.

Prebiotics are fibers found in food and quality supplements that can help the gut microbiome feed the good bacteria that already exist, thereby strengthening the body’s natural immune system, 80% of which is estimated to be in the gut. Damage from poor diet, overuse of antibiotics, and environmental toxins can break down and harm this natural defense system.

The Microbiome hitting #1 is good news for everyone’s health. Finding good and reliable supplements to aid in the gut disrupted by a poor Western diet containing too much sugar, processed foods and poor nutritional value will reduce illness and suffering among millions.

Ultimately, this change from treating symptoms to preventing disease is now being given the credit it deserves. As Thomas Edison said over one hundred years ago, “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will instruct his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”

According to prebiotic fiber leader, Prebiotin CEO, Ron Walborn Jr., “We have known for a long time that food and natural supplements have the power to strengthen the immune system. Our third-party science proves it. In the past, drugs were the accepted remedy for an out-of-balance microbiome. Now the mainstream medical leaders, like Cleveland Clinic, are acknowledging the microbiome’s power, and investigating better ways of harnessing it.”

Jackson GI Medical/Prebiotin was founded by visionary prebiotic pioneer, Dr. Frank Jackson in 2008, and is dedicated to the responsible development and marketing of medically credible nutritional supplements backed by third-party research.
