As the U.S. braces for another active disaster season, Healthcare Ready is urging pharmacies across the country to enroll in RxOpen, the only nationwide tool that helps patients and emergency responders locate open pharmacies in disaster-affected areas.
With more than 8 million users since 2008, RxOpen provides updates on pharmacy availability, helping ensure that communities maintain access to critical medications in the aftermath of hurricanes, wildfires, and other emergencies. Enrolling in RxOpen allows a pharmacy’s open or closed status to be displayed on RxOpen following a disaster, so patients, providers, and emergency response entities can find their nearest open pharmacy following a disaster.
“Local pharmacies are essential lifelines during disasters,” said Julie Abrams Acting Executive Director of Healthcare Ready. “When storms hit or power outages occur, people need a way to find open pharmacies quickly. By enrolling in RxOpen, communities benefit from easily being able to search for their nearest open pharmacy and access medications when they need them most.”
Why Pharmacies Should Enroll in RxOpen:
- Be visible during disasters – Ensure patients, emergency responders, and health officials can find your pharmacy.
- No cost to participate – Enrolling in RxOpen is free and only takes a few minutes.
- Strengthen emergency preparedness – Help your community stay resilient during hurricanes, wildfires, and other emergencies.
- Stay connected with emergency managers – Provide up to date operational status updates to public health and disaster response officials.
