Leadership style varies among executives. For HIMSS President and CEO H. Stephen Lieber, CAE, change and innovation highlight his skillful approach, and he has now been tapped to as a judge for the inaugural Heart Health Prize of $100,000. Presented by Hearst Health, a division of Hearst Corporation, and administered by the Jefferson College of Population Health at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, the prize will be awarded on March 8, 2016, at the Population Health Colloquium on the university campus.
“Population health ranks as one of the primary areas of focus at HIMSS, as we work across our organization to provide valuable tools and resources to help healthcare professionals understand how important it is to access and use data in the overall treatment of populations of patients,” said Lieber. “I am honored to be part of this distinguished panel of judges as we come together to honor the recipient of the award.”
A recognized health IT leader in North America, and across the globe, Lieber recently received the 2015 Samuel B. Shapiro Award for Chief Executive Achievement. As the highest honor from the Association Forum, this award represents outstanding service and accomplishment in the association/nonprofit management field.
With more than 30 years in healthcare and nonprofit management, including 15 of those years at the helm of HIMSS, Lieber’s leadership has helped to:
- Establish HIMSS as a global leader on issues including electronic health records, interoperability, technology standards and IT adoption.
- Expand HIMSS by quadrupling its size and sharpening its scope to encompass ambulatory IT issues and healthcare business information systems.
HIMSS now has more than 350 employees, a $90M annual operating budget, offices in the US, Europe and Asia and delivers more than 100 educational global events annually.
“I have been very fortunate to work with people who share with me not only the missions of the organizations we have worked for,” says Lieber, “but also, to work with colleagues who have been willing to support the philosophy of change and innovation, which are the cornerstone of my approach to leadership.”
