The Friday Five – National Public Health Week

Apr 3, 2020 | Posted by Annmarie Budniak | Celebrations - Awareness |

Follow and join the conversation with #NPHW and #NPHWChat.

The American Public Health Association (@PublicHealth) brings together communities across the United States to observe National Public Health Week (@NPHW) as a time to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation’s health. While this year marks the 25th anniversary of NPHW, COVID-19 has stolen the spotlight and our Friday Five highlights the adjustments that have been made to the event and how we can still participate next week.

Ideas for Celebrating While Respecting the Need for Social Distancing.
COVID-19 has thrown a curveball at National Public Health Week. Events have been postponed, canceled or modified. Yet everyone’s mind is on public health, and there are still lots of ways to celebrate NPHW while maintaining social distance and keeping our communities healthier.

COVID-19 Conversations – A Webinar Series
Brought to you by the American Public Health Association and the National Academy of Medicine, this webinar series will explore the state of the science surrounding the current outbreak of COVID-19 in the United States and globally, with a focus on the emerging evidence on how to best mitigate its impact. Hear from trusted experts in such fields as public health, infectious disease, risk communication, and crisis standards of care.

Thank you for being part of today’s #COVID19Conversations webinar! The recording and transcript will be available at https://t.co/qhBbpekXtm. Stay tuned for info on the next broadcast in this critical rapid-response series. #COVID19 pic.twitter.com/YJMDEe8YsY

Annual Twitter Chat
#COVID19 is here and the time to talk public health is now! Mark your calendar for 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 8. That’s the time for APHA’s Annual NPHW Twitter Chat! Public health, what has been accomplished and where the movement is going will all be discussed. Check out last year’s highlights under #NPHWchat.

Support Public Health and Complete the Census

The U.S. census has important implications for public health funding, research, infrastructure and more. Respond now and encourage others in your community and networks to do the same! https://t.co/z5M2MccQwr #CensusDay2020 #CensusDay pic.twitter.com/SZVlme6247

Thank A Public Health Hero
As the incredible people of public health work tirelessly to stop the spread of the new coronavirus, there is no better way to celebrate National Public Health Week this year than to thank these heroes. Throughout NPHW 2020, share your thank you notes on the CityHealth Twitter feed and tag those who you have mentioned.

As the incredible people working in public health devote every waking hour to stopping #COVID19, we know there is no better way to celebrate #NPHW than to thank these heroes.

Share your thanks here and we’ll tweet it out during @NPHW: https://t.co/E2FcE6TVTI pic.twitter.com/cZrv6Iwy30
