Studies, Surveys and Reports: What Can We Learn?

May 18, 2026 Posted by Annmarie Budniak Reports

We have rounded up some reports and surveys from around the industry that we thought were of interest.

Annual state of private practice report (2025 in review)

SimplePractice, a platform powering independent mental health practices, released its “Annual State of Private Practice Report (2025 in Review).” This first-of-its-kind report establishes a baseline for better understanding the health, impact, and significance of the independent mental health practice landscape in the United States. Its findings are drawn from survey insights from over 2,200 clinicians and pulls aggregated data from more than 245,000 practitioners using SimplePractice.

The State of Medicare Supplement Coverage

Medicare Supplement plans continue to help seniors and people living with disabilities manage health care costs by covering out-of-pocket expenses not included in fee-for-service (FFS) Medicare, such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. AHIP’s newly released State of Medicare Supplement Coverage report offers a look at how these benefits translate into greater affordability for more than 14 million Americans. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) enrollees are significantly less likely to experience difficulty paying medical bills than those with FFS Medicare alone.

The Revenue Cycle of the Future: AI boom and workflow redesigns accelerate rev cycle transformation

With AI becoming more ingrained in the healthcare system revenue cycle, leaders know the next few years will be disruptive, but many are also embracing opportunities to seize this moment, according to “The Revenue Cycle of the Future,” the latest report from the award-winning editorial team at the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). An HFMA survey of healthcare system leaders found them wondering if their teams can keep up with the challenges posed by AI in the revenue cycle and the subsequent disruption.

Rising Drug Prices Mean Consumers Bear the Cost

Drug spending rises roughly 10% each year – and is expected to accelerate in the coming years, further driving up premiums. Drugmakers deploy a variety of tactics to keep prices high and pad their record profit margins. As the costs of medical care continue to rise faster than wages and inflation, health plans are promoting common-sense policy solutions to make health care more affordable for everyone

Remote Patient Monitoring Program Components and Short-Term Hypertension Control: Retrospective Cohort Study

More than 100 million Americans live with hypertension; the leading driver of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and preventable hospitalizations; yet fewer than half have it under control. A landmark peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research mHealth and uHealth now demonstrates that Brook’s integrated remote care infrastructure closes that gap in ways that traditional remote patient monitoring simply cannot.

Healthcare Market Intelligence Report

Verato, the identity intelligence company, announced the release of its latest industry report, revealing that most healthcare organizations still cannot reliably recognize their own patients, putting loyalty, experience, and digital transformation at risk. The findings come from the “2026 Healthcare Identity Intelligence Report: Bridging the Gap Between Patient Expectations and Healthcare Delivery,” commissioned by Verato and produced by S&P Global Energy Horizons and its 451 Research team. The report highlights a growing disconnect between rising consumer expectations and the fragmented data environments in which many healthcare organizations still operate.

Improving Maternal Health in Ohio via Interoperability & Incentivized Care

Azara Healthcare, the four-time Best in KLAS provider of population health and value-based care solutions for the safety net, together with the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers (OACHC), CareSource, and Humana, has received a 2026 KLAS Points of Light Award. The award recognizes the collaborators’ work to automate the creation and submission of Pregnancy Risk Assessment Forms (PRAFs) across Ohio, which more than doubled statewide submission rates and accelerated the identification of high-risk pregnancies covered by Medicaid. The collaboration is documented in case study titled “Improving Maternal Health in Ohio via Interoperability & Incentivized Care.”

Reconnecting HR to the Frontline: How Leader Standard Work Translates People Strategy into Results

New research out from Laudio and ASHHRA focused specifically on a challenge many healthcare HR leaders are grappling with: how to strengthen workforce stability by better supporting frontline managers. The report, Reconnecting HR to the Frontline: How Leader Standard Work Translates People Strategy into Results, examines how shifts in healthcare HR operating models—like centralized services, leaner teams, and increased reliance on self-service tools—are impacting the connection between HR strategy and the frontline workforce. Drawing on data from 15,000+ managers across 150+ hospitals, along with interviews with CHROs and nursing leaders, it offers a detailed look at what’s driving variability in leadership and employee experience across health systems.

Young Adults and College Student Behavioral Health report

The 4th annual Young Adult and College Student Behavioral Health Report, a survey commissioned by UnitedHealthcare and conducted by YouGov¹ among college students, young adults not enrolled in college (ages 18–28) (“young adults”) and parents, explored how mental and behavioral health concerns manifest today, how students and young adults seek support and where gaps in understanding persist among parents.

Bridging the gap between patient expectations and healthcare delivery

Verato, the identity intelligence company, today announced the release of its latest industry report, revealing that most healthcare organizations still cannot reliably recognize their own patients, putting loyalty, experience, and digital transformation at risk.

2026 Annual Clinical Outcomes Report

The Medicaid Maternity Cliff

Sage Growth Partners’ survey of 50 health plan leaders and 300 pregnant or recently pregnant women as well as their caregivers spotlights the looming loss of coverage and care disruption from Medicaid redeterminations — including who’s most at risk and how to curb the crisis. More than half of mothers on Medicaid (52%) anticipate losing coverage while 84% of payer leaders expect moderate to severe disruption due to these redeterminations.

The Cost of Confusion in Healthcare

RevSpring, a provider of healthcare engagement and payment solutions, released The Cost of Confusion: How Friction Shapes the Healthcare Experience, a national consumer survey examining where people experience the most friction across healthcare and what providers can do to make the experience easier to navigate. While consumers increasingly use digital tools to manage healthcare, the findings show complexity still shapes how they experience care. Nearly all respondents (94%) agree that healthcare needs to be made easier.

Based on in-depth interviews with eClinical Solutions clients, the research examined how the technology can deliver measurable results and business benefits at a time when the growing volume of data and sources presents challenges for data management, medical monitoring, and trial operations teams, leading to extended cycle times.

2025 AMA Prior Authorization Physician Survey

In June 2025, after successful engagement from the Trump administration to address widespread concerns from patients and physicians, roughly 60 health insurers pledged to streamline, simplify, and reduce prior authorization requirements, with implementation deadlines spanning 2025 through 2027. Ahead of the first major deadline, the AMA surveyed 1,000 practicing physicians to assess whether these commitments are likely to deliver meaningful improvements for patients and physicians. Findings from the 2025 AMA Prior Authorization Physician Survey show that only one in three physicians (33%) believe the latest insurer pledge will make a meaningful difference.

EVALI Encounters Remain Above 2020 Baseline as Vaping Prevalence Among Adolescents and Young Adults Grows

Electronic cigarettes and vaping products have expanded rapidly in the U.S., transitioning from smoking cessation tools to broadly adopted consumer products, particularly among adolescents and young adults. Awareness of the acute clinical harms associated with vaping has grown alongside expanded use. E-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury (EVALI) is the most severe and well-documented medical condition stemming from vaping.1,2 EVALI is an acute or subacute respiratory illness affecting primarily young, otherwise healthy individuals, often requiring intensive hospital-based care. The surge of EVALI cases in 2019 drew public and regulatory focus. However, the broader pattern of vaping-related injury remains incompletely characterized at the population level, in part because consistent clinical recognition and documentation of EVALI has not been broadly achieved.

Under the HITECH Act of 2009, OCR is required to publish a summary of large healthcare data breaches – incidents involving the exposure, theft, or impermissible disclosure of the electronic protected health information of 500 or more individuals. OCR checks all breach reports submitted through its data breach portal, then adds the data breaches to the public-facing section of the portal.
