Life sciences span a wide range of disciplines that study living organisms in six categories, from molecules and cells to ecosystems and human health. The category that intersects in our world is Applied Life Sciences. And more specifically these fields that translate biological knowledge into practical solutions.
- Biotechnology – using living systems for technology and innovation
- Pharmacology – drug action and development
- Biomedical Science – disease mechanisms, diagnostics, therapeutics
- Stem Cell Biology & Regenerative Medicine – cell-based therapies
In this monthly report you will find news and highlights in the Applied Life Science.

Vetter Achieves Platinum Status as a Best Managed Company
Vetter, a Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), has been named a Best Managed Company for the seventh year in a row. The family-owned business was the only company in this year’s competition to be newly awarded Platinum status. The prestigious prize is awarded by Deloitte Private, UBS, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V. (Federation of German Industries, BDI) to companies for outstanding achievements in leadership and management. The jury evaluates companies according to four value drivers: strategy, productivity, culture and commitment, and governance and finance. In 2026, the CDMO received the award primarily for consistent further development of its corporate strategy and its operational processes in the context of a globally challenging environment. The trophy and certificate were presented to Vetter at an awards ceremony on May 21 at the Gesellschaftshaus Palmengarten in Frankfurt, Germany.

Gilead Sciences and Lakefront Complete Acquisition of Ouro Medicines to Further Expand Inflammation Pipeline
Gilead Sciences and Lakefront Biotherapeutics NV announced the successful completion of the previously announced acquisition of Ouro Medicines to advance T cell engager therapies for autoimmune diseases. The acquisition adds gamgertamig (OM336), a clinical-stage BCMAxCD3 T cell engager, to Gilead’s growing inflammation portfolio and will be the foundation of Lakefront’s clinical development pipeline. Gamgertamig is designed to enable rapid and deep plasma cell and B cell depletion following a limited subcutaneously administered treatment course with the potential to induce durable disease control in severe antibody-mediated orphan diseases including autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) and immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Gamgertamig has been granted both Fast Track and Orphan Drug Designation by the U.S. FDA for the treatment of AIHA and ITP and is expected to enter registrational studies as early as 2027.
ProBioGen Launches AGE1.CR.ReX Designer Cell Line for High-Titer Poxvirus Production
ProBioGen announced the launch of AGE1.CR.ReX®, its next-generation avian designer cell line for stable, high-titer poxvirus production and rapid generation of recombinant modified vaccinia Ankara (MVA). Enabled for switchable gene expression and the proprietary TetherexX™ System, the new platform is designed to accelerate and simplify the development of modern poxvirus-based vaccines and oncolytic viruses while improving genetic stability and manufacturing reliability.
