Attend or Livestream 24-Hour Medicaid Vigil
Hundreds to Gather in Washington to Raise Alarm Around Cuts to Medicaid
Starting the afternoon of May 7, Caring Across Generations and the Care Can’t Wait coalition and its partners and allies will hold a 24-hour vigil for Medicaid on the U.S. Capitol grounds to bring thousands of stories and voices of caregivers, disabled people, older adults, and families to the front steps of power. Elected officials from across the country, including, Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), will also join the vigil to share stories and show their support.
The vigil will showcase the realities of what any cuts and harmful changes to Medicaid will make to the nearly 80 million people in this country who rely on it for their health care. Stories shared during the event will spotlight the real faces and voices behind Medicaid – proving that needing care isn’t about politics or privilege – it’s about being human.
WHAT
Care advocates, caregivers and impacted individuals are convening to hold a vigil for Medicaid to warn members of Congress that Medicaid cuts would:
- Take health care coverage away from millions of people, including children, older adults, and disabled people seeking to live and age at home, and people with chronic illness;
- Make it harder for part-time workers with inconsistent hours, caregivers, and mothers to get health care;
- Increase health care costs for everyone, including medical debt for millions, affecting every community; and
- Destabilize hospitals and health care systems we all rely on, especially in rural communities.
